Water-dilutable coating compsn. (I) with hydrophobic and penetrating properties is based on physically drying polymer resin, oxidatively drying oils and/or silicone resins with pigments, fillers and additives and contains less than 5 (wt.)% organic solvent. The novelty is that the binder comprises a combination, without chemical reaction, of an aq. 50% acrylate copolymer dispersion (II), a drying oil (III) and opt. a silicone resin emulsion (IV) in the ratios (II):(III) = 100:(4-80) and, if (IV) is used, (II):((III) + (IV) = 100:(2-20). Pref. (I) contains 30-65% (II) and the pigment vol. concn. (PVC) is 15-38 vol.%. USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) is used for corrosion inhibiting coatings on metals and other materials (claimed). Its high grease absorption capacity ensures very good wetting and adhesion to oily or greasy substrates, e.g. oily trucks. (I) also has good penetration and good resistance to water and weathering.
