An electric door lock system for vehicles includes a central facility to prevent operation by children. The actuator has a motor (1) coupled to a rack-and-pinion element (10). The motor is selectively connected to the power supply (4) via a switching unit (11). A limit switch indicates the state of the actuator, i.e. on or off. When the driver operates switch contacts (2), the supply to the motor is activated and the interlock process begins.
