To calibrate the electro-mechanically operated inlet valve for a domestic appliance using water, such as a clothes or dishes washing machine, the flow vol. and a trickle flow vol. at the inlet valve (2) are determined by two separate and successive measurements. During the first measurement, the flow vol. is established as a given filling time for a set measured vol. During the second measurement, the inlet valve (2) is controlled at a given and constant valve operation cycle time to measure the trickle flow vol.. Pref. the cycled control of the inlet valve (2) is continued until the filled vol. has been achieved. The number of operating cycles gives the trickle flow vol.. The valve cycle time is greatly less than the filling time. USE/ADVANTAGE - The system establishes precisely the vol. to fill the machine, and the trickle flow vol. from the time the closing valve is operated until the flow is blocked, eliminating faults.
