A guide roller for an obliquely fed web of material, esp. plastic film which passes partly round the roller, has elements which can freely move parallel to the roller axis and lie in the surface, each having a radial outer surface for the web to pass over. At least one part of each outer surface has other elements which yield to the web and/or tilt. The perspective view of a film (12) passing over a roller shows the roller (10) concerned, with its centre body (14) which has longitudinal grooves (16) running along its surface. It has also journals (20) for its bearings. Bars (22) fit into the grooves 916) and stand out from the surface of the roller. The effect is to provide the interrrupted surfaces (24) over which the film (12) passes. The bar (22) can move along the slots but will not fall out. An end device (28) is ficed and moves the bars (22) back. ADVANTAGE - The prod. is suitable for a system with guide rods or rollers for films which are difficult to process and, in partic., for tacky films which can thereby be drawn of or wound free from bulges.
