The conduction system supplies water for industrial use via at least one dredging pump (2) driven by a controller (7). The controller (7) is separate from the pump (2). An ultrasound transmitter (8, 9, 10) controls the pump (2) via one branch of the conduction system (4) using ultrasound signals. These signals are generated in the controller (2) and correspond to pump control commands. They are converted to ultrasound signals which are transmitted to the receiver (9) and converted to electric signals. These are then converted to command signals in an analyser and controller (10). ADVANTAGE - Enables control of pump from separate controller at reduced cost.
