The mechanism (1) of the foldable table-top (14) has a base (3) for securing to the wheelchair armrest bracket (2). The base is coupled to the table-top by a joint (9), and the table-top is held in its vertical position by an arrester (18, 20). The arrester is releasable by a lever (31) on the table-top underside at its vertically foldable section. The lever can be actuated by the patient's hand away from the joint. Pref. the lever is fitted near the highest folding edge of the table-top.
