A plant for recycling thermoplastic scrap includes at least one extruder linked to a motor driven system, the extruder being mobile. The source of energy used is e.g. an i.c. engine. Pref. the layout is a road vehicle fitted with an internal combustion engine which drives both the vehicle and also an hydraulic pump. The latter is connected through pipes to an hydraulic motor that is fitted on directly to an extruder. The extruder is charged from a hold above; this is loaded through the opening and its air drawn out by a cyclone. The extruder discharges through a heated pipe which has two flexible joints so that the melt emerging can be suitably moved about. This makes it possible to produce large area sheets of melt in a continuous manner. ADVANTAGE - The plant makes it possible to use scrap plastic for high grade applications without being sorted. The extruder can be used alone or in combination with others because of its mobility.
