<p>The invention relates to a cooling device for a motor car engine. r e device comprises a heat exchanger (14) through which a cooling fluid (coolant) can run, and which can be swept by a flow of air, at least one means (26, 30) for controlling the flow rate of the flow of air sweeping the heat exchanger, this control means having several different states, first sensing means (50) capable of providing a first numerical quantity which represents the speed of the vehicle, second sensor means (44, 46, 48) capable of providing a second numerical quantity representing the flow rate of the cooling fluid running through the heat exchanger, and means (CMD) for commanding the said control means depending on the first and second quantities, these command means operating according to two different functions, depending on whether the flow rate of cooling fluid is decreasing or increasing.
