A load-carrying tray 12 carried by a wheeled trolley 10 connected to a roller chain 26, is deflectable to either side of the path of conveyance (as shown in dot-dash lines in Fig. 2, not shown) by the action of either of arms (51), (52), on the carrier, engaging a tripping device (48). The latter is moved into the paths of one or other arm (51), (52) (according to which side the tray is intended to discharge), when the trolley is selected (by means not described) for discharge at the station respective to the device 48. Each arm (51), (52) has a respective latch arm (79), (86) (Fig. 3, not shown), both of which normally engage a latch surface (64) of a member 62. The latter carries a gear segment 58 (Fig. 4, not shown, and Fig. 1) which meshes with a pinion 56 rigid with a pivot member 36 of the tray 12. In operation, when arm (51) is deflected (dash-dot lines, Fig. 3) by the device (48) the latch member (79) is pulled ou of engagement with the latch surface (64) and a stop (84) engages the latch member 62 to cause rotation of the gear segment 58 and consequent deflection of the tray 12. The arm (52) remains latched and follows the deflection of the arm (51). |
