The filter for molten metal comprises a series of at least two plates (2, 2a, 2b) made from refractory mineral material which together define one or more cavities (4, 5), these plates each including a series of holes (3, 3a, 3b) permitting the passage and the filtration of the liquid metal. At least one of the cavities (4, 5) contains a material (12) for treating the said metal, particularly a material having inoculant properties with respect to the liquid metal. Use, in particular, for simultaneously filtering and treating molten metals and improving the quality of the metals.
