PURPOSE:To provide a lanthanum alkoxide useful as a raw material for superconductive materials and catalysts in a high purity, in a high yield and in a shorter reaction time than by conventional methods. CONSTITUTION:When a lanthanum halide of formula: LaX3 (X is halogen) is reacted with an alkoxide of formula: ROM (RO is alkoxy; M is alkali metal atom) in the presence of a solvent (e.g. an aromatic hydrocarbon, especially preferably toluene) in a suspension state, a rigid abrading medium is allowed to exist in the reaction system, and the reaction is performed, while the reaction products are abraded and stirred. The abrading medium includes glass, iron and ceramics, and added to the reaction systems in an amount of approximately 10-30vol.%. The abrading operation is performed with a high speed stirrer, a turbine mixer, a slurry pump, etc. The lanthanum halide is preferably used in an amount of >1/3 mole per mole of the alkoxide. |
