PURPOSE:To efficiently and simultaneously produce a <=5C alcohol and n- octanol, while preventing the production of by-products such as acetal and ether compounds. CONSTITUTION:The method for producing the alcohol by hydrogenating a <=5C aldehyde in the presence of a catalyst is characterized by performing the hydrogenation reaction in the coexistence of 1-octa-2,7-diethanol in the reaction system to simultaneously produce the <=5C alcohol and n-octanol. |
