[Also in Division B8] Four packages 442, Fig. 29, arranged side by side, are formed from a strip (38) of paper &c. with a heat sealable coating on one side, folded in half at 448. The folded strip 38 is passed between a pair of sealing rolls 42, 44, Fig. 21, which seal and separate the packages 442. Each roll 42, 44 comprises a keyed hollow shaft 420 enclosing an electrical heater 422, and carrying knurled rollers 432, Fig. 25, separated by disc knives 439 and spacers 437, arranged as shown. The rollers are urged towards one another by springs 494, but the knurled faces 434, 436 of the rollers 432 are prevented from touching by an adjustable stop 488 in their housing, Fig. 23.</p> |
