Refractory glass fibres consist essentially of alumina, silica and chromic oxide wherein the ranges of ingredients by weight are: alumina 35-055%, silica 40-60%, chromic oxide 0À9- 8% and the ratio of Al 2 O 3 /SiO 2 is 0À62-1À2. Preferred ranges are 37-53% alumina, 46- 57% silica and 0À9-6% chromic oxide with an Al 2 O 3 /SiO 2 ratio of 0.69 to 0À95.
