METHOD AND TEST REAGENT FOR THE DETERMINATION OF IODINE IN URINE

The invention concerns a method and test reagent for the determination of iodine in urine using starch as indicator. The iodine concentration of a urine sample is first increased by a known amount by addition of a pre-determined quantity of iodine, the amount of iodine added being smaller than the smallest reliably measurable amount of iodine which, by virtue of the colour change it produces, can demonstrate the presence of iodine, but the amount added being large enough to form, together with the iodine originally contained in the urine, a reliably measurable amount of iodine. The minimum amount of iodine originally contained in the urine sample can be determined from the difference between the smallest reliably measurable amount of iodine and the known amount of iodine added to increase the iodine concentration.
