<p>Industrial waste containing thermoplastic materials, possibly mixed with other solids, is compacted to enable storage in a non-bulky form, particularly in drums. The compacting machine comprises an induction furnace (2) with a vessel containing a rotary eccentric mixer (7) for mixing, crushing and grinding the waste as it is heated in the vessel. The crushed solids are then coated with the molten or softened thermoplastic materials. The softened mass flows out through an opening at the bottom of the furnace and into a drum (10) in a preheating receptacle (9). The drum may be vibrated. Said machine may be used for processing any waste containing thermoplastic materials, including low-level radioactive waste such as protective equipment from nuclear facilities.</p> |
