Reversible floor covering material has carpet material 17 on opposite faces of a substantially homogeneous intermediate bonding material 19 e.g. polyurethane. The material 17 is tufted into meshes 16 and the material 19 surrounds the meshes and inner ends of the material 19. Pieces of the material may be spaced by rigid members 11 the assembly be held together by releasable transverse rods 13. This may form a mat. The material may be formed by mounting a mesh 16 and material 17 in a frame, applying material 19 in liquid form and then applying the other mesh 16 with material 17 and allowing material 19 to set.
