A photovoltaic cell array has two glass panes (1,2) having facing electrically conductive coatings (9) and sandwiching a photovoltaic material combination (14,15) which comprises a material layer (14) (esp. a monomolecular titanium oxide gel layer loaded with a transition metal complex as sensitiser) an one of the conductive coatings (9) and a redox system-contg. electrolyte (15) filling the remaining space between the panes (1,2). Severla cells (3-8) are arranged on the same panes (1,2) and are series-connected such that the material layer (14) of adjacent cells alternates between the two panes (1,2) and the electrically conductive coatings (9) are interrupted only at each second cell edge at offset locations on the two panes (1,2). ADVANTAGE - The cells are series- connected in a simple manner to provide increased voltage and thus a relatively high current strength.
