A non-flammable filler contg. rigid foam (I) with a bulk density of 30-300 kg/m3 is formed by reaction of (A) a mixt. of (a) 15-75 pts.wt. phenol-resole precondensate, (b) 0.1-45 pts.wt. furfuryl alcohol, (c) 0.01-5 pts.wt. foam stabiliser and (d) 60-150 pts.wt. filler; (B) an acidic curing agent; and (C) a volatile organic cpd. as a propellant. (d) contains 0.5-20 wt.% ammonium polyphosphate and the viscosity of (A) is 10-15 Pa.s at 20 deg.C. USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) is useful in the construction industry and has a low and stable viscosity thus making it suitable for the continuous prodn. of foam prods. and results in a more reproducible and homogeneous foam.
