Cooling filaments in high speed melt spinning - with cooling air supplied by entrainment in perforated first section of cooling chimney

Filaments are extruded, cooled and wound up at speeds greater than 2400 m/min.. Immediately after leaving the spinning head the filaments enter a zone in the cooling chimney where cooling air enters through an air permeable wall. This is followed by a second zone where they are treated in the entrained air without further exchange of air through the walls. The supply of cooling air in the first zone is generated purely by suction arising from the entrainment of air by the filaments. USE/ADVANTAGE - Provides simplified method of cooling filaments in melt spinning.
