The material of the intermediate layer is bentonite. The bearer layer (1) and the cover layer (2) are joined through the middle layer by connecting seams parallel to the longitudinal edges (5) and spaced apart by 2 to 5 cm. This produces the formation of adjacent hose-type strips filled with swellable material (3). The strips (6) in the cover sheet (2) have slots (8) through which the swellable material (3) can emerge. In the edge area the amount of swellable material is increased. The swellable material (3) is embedded at least partly in a protective layer (9) consisting of a fleece with a high number of pores. USE/ADVANTAGE - Sealing mat which achieves seal in overlapping areas without application of additional swellable material.
