A process for operating a spinning plant section comprising several spinning machines, involves making a rough plan to determine which mfg. lot is produced at what time and with what quantity. The process uses a computer (122) and takes into account the basic prodn. data associated with the individual mfg. lots. The data has to be sufficient to work out the specific prodn. to be expected. The use of the machines and the prodn. that has taken place at an up-to-date period of time are also taken into account in carrying out a comparison with the target output set in the plan. A calculation is made as to when the target output will be reached. A comparison follows to establish whether the target times can be maintained. In the event of unacceptable delays of production shortfalls, the process involves investigating whether there is unutilised machine capacity in the spinning section in question. If the rough plane cannot be adhered to, this fact is registered. The process involves fine planning based on changing the mfg. lot on to another machine and the actual amt. produced is monitored continuously.
