The controller unit includes buoyancy control devices at intervals in the measurement cable which exchange a buoyancy medium. A piston cylinder unit (2,3) in at least one cable section has a positionable piston (3) movable between starting (13) and end (10) positions in a cylinder (2) fixed in the cable outer casing. A compressed air container (14) is arranged on side of the piston. On the other side is a weakly elastic bubble container (11). Valve openings (15) between each two piston-cylinder units allow sea water inflow and outflow. A liquid vol. (16) in the cylinder fills the bubble store as a result of piston motion and displaces the surrounding sea water out of the interior of the cable casing via the valve opening. ADVANTAGE - Simple rapidly acting arrangement does not cause leaks or thicken cable.
