It contains an air bag and activators, actuated by the steering column shortening in a collision. The activators are mechanical and have a rod (18), extending in the direction of the steering wheel and abutting against the steering column lower part in a collision. An actuator (17) protrudes into the relative movement path of the rod, and has a trigger for the air bag igniter (6) actuation.
