Disposal process for asbestos contg. material, in which asbestos is modified by heating, with the fine shredded material being injected into the melting zone of a metallurgical shaft furnace. Pref. the shredded asbestos contg. material is injected through the blast tuyeres in combination with a fuel, or is mixed with liq. fuel prior to injection. USE/ADVANTAGE - A safe and economic process for the disposal of asbestos contg. material, in which the crystal structure of asbestos is completely destroyed by exposure to high temp. and combined with the furnace prim. slag.
