A U-flow refrigerant evaporator 10 comprising three inter-connected U-flow evaporator cores 12, 14 and 16, each of which comprises an assembly of U-flow evaporator core sections formed from uniform U-flow tubes 18, 19 and 20 with air centres 21 therebetween. Each core section is of a substantially rectangular-shaped configuration. Each core section is at least of a different height(11, 13)from one another. The inter-connection between each pair of evaporator cores 12, 14 and 14, 16 is such as to allow substantially free flow of refrigerant fluid from one evaporator core to the next. The evaporator cores 12, 14 and 16 are inter-connected with one another so as to produce a U-flow refrigerant evaporator 10 having a substantially step-shaped, non-rectangular- shaped configuration. The inter-connection between each pair of U-flow evaporator cores 12, 14 and 14, 16 comprises a direct inter-connection between adjacent integral header tanks 30, 32, 30', 32', 30'', 32'' formed on adjacent flat end tubes of said pairs of U-flow evaporator cores 12, 14 and 14, 16. <IMAGE> |
