The universal adaptor allows different types of optical fibre connectors to be coupled together and comprises an open ended tubular housing (10) fitted with a rear plate (20) at one end for connecting a duplex connector plug (30) fitted in the opposite end to a different type of connector. The rear plate has a pair of forwards projecting coupling elements (22) and a number of spring retaining tongues for self-alignment of the rear plate with the housing during its insertion. These tongues cooperate with locking projections within the housing, to prevent the subsequent removal of the rear plate.
