Appts. for solids/gas mixt. transfer between an upper chamber (1) at pressure P1 and a lower chamber (2) at pressure P2 (as above P1) includes an intermediate chamber (3) at a pressure varying between P1 and P2, solids flow channels (5, 6) connecting the upper chamber to the intermediate chamber and the intermediate chamber to the lower chamber respectively and preventing upward entrainment of solids by a rising gas flow, channels (4, 11) for solids/gas mixt. delivery into the upper chamber and out of the lower chamber, a conduit (12) connecting the tops of the upper and intermediate chambers for gas circulation between these chambers and a detector (20) for low solids level in the intermediate chamber. The appts. also includes (a) an L-gate valve (13), an intermediate vessel (14) and a calibrated orifice (15) arranged in sequence in the gas conduit (12), the distance between the valve and the vessel being such that a solid plug can form in the straight section (17) between the valve and the vessel; (b) devices (19, 16, 18) for gas injection into the intermediate chamber, into the L-gate valve and into the gas conduit above the solid plug; and (c) an automatic control system for the appts. USE/ADVANTAGE - Esp. in petroleum fraction reforming installations, which employ moving catalytic beds for continuous regeneration of the catalyst.
