New compounds of formula <FORM:1040033/C2/1> where R1 is -(CH2)n-NR3R4, n being 2-5 and R3 and R4 being alkyl or jointly with the nitrogen atom forming a heterocyclic group which may contain a further hetero-atom, and R2 represents alkyl, any group which may be represented by R1, or (when n is 2) a hydrogen atom, and non-toxic salts thereof, are prepared by (1) when R2 is other than hydrogen, reaction of a -R1-a -R2-1-naphthylacetamides with nitrous acid, preparable in situ, or nitrous anhydride, or (2) when R2 is hydrogen, hydrolysis of a -R1-1-naphthylacetonitriles. Pharmaceutical compositions comprise the new compounds with carriers. Preparations for oral administration of all compounds and for parenteral, rectal and topical administration of compounds where n = 2 are described, having antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, choleretic and hypoglycemic activity. |
