Non-adherent neurosurgical sponge

Laminated surgical sponge made of compressed textile fibers which is mainly used in neurological surgery such as brain or spine operations for absorption of body fluids or protection of tissues and other body members. The sponge is very flexible and easily conforms to the tissue contours on which it is placed and it remains in place with no tendency to return to its original shape. This sponge is characterized in that the outer layer is made of a porous plastic material which prevents the sponge from adhering to the tissue and avoids tearing the tissue when removed. The sponge may contain an X-Ray detectable member and a string attached to it for easy identification.
