The composition and the method are used in the purification of lake, and reservoir waters and water basins from arsenic, lead, copper and/or manganese with great effeciency and at low costs. The composition consists of ferro-alumo compounds and/or mixture of biotite, feldspat and volcanic glass and a material containing oxides of calcium, silicon, aluminium and iron from which, by dressing, two compositions were produced: composition enriched in oxides of aluminium and iron, and composition enriched in alkaline metals. The method includes consecutive sprinkling of the treated waters with the first and second composition at a certain concentration and at fixed intervals.
