[Also in Division B5] Welding wires for use in electric arc welding in an atmosphere of CO 2 are formed in discrete lengths (see Divisions B4-B5) by compacting metal powder with alloying constituents, slagforming constituents and organic substances, between peripherally grooved rollers followed by sintering at 1300‹ C. and rolling and drawing. The powder is compacted to square, polygonal or circular section. An iron powder may be used which is reduced from Fe 3 O 4 by carbon which may subsequently be reduced by hydrogen to yield porous particles.
