PURPOSE:To provide a method for synthesizing a soot material for an optical fiber, capable of improving the adhesion yield of powdery glass to the end part of a porous preform for an optical fiber. CONSTITUTION:For making up the reduction in the amount of glass fine particles 9 adhering to the end parts 82 and 83 of a target 8, the electrification voltage of the glass fine particles 9 at the end parts of the target 8 is made higher than that at the central part 81 of the target 8 and the amount of the glass fine particles 9 adhering to the end parts of the target 8 through an electrostatic force is increased. As its result, the amount of the glass fine particles 9 adhering to each of the end part of the target 8 becomes equal to that to the central part 81 of the target 8 and the outer diameter of the end part of the target 8 becomes equal to the outer diameter of the central part. |
