PURPOSE:To prevent light from leaking to the outside even in the case of copying a thick original such as a book by allowing an original platen to descend when the original is placed on the original platen so that the peripheral part of a light shielding cover with which the original on the original platen is covered may be brought into tight contact with the upper surface of a cabinet. CONSTITUTION:In the case of copying the thick original 60 such as the book, the original 60 is placed on the original platen 20 and the light shielding cover 30 is pressed downward in a state where the original is covered with the cover 30. Thus, the platen 20 descends against the upward pressing force of a spring. When the platen 20 descends by a distance equivalent to the thickness of the original 60, the lower surface of the peripheral part of the cover 30 is brought into tight contact with the upper surface of the cabinet 10 surrounding the platen 20. Therefore, the cover 30 with which the original 60 is covered is positioned upper than the platen 20 by height equivalent to the thickness of the original 60 on the platen 20. However, the lower surface of the peripheral part of the cover 30 is brought into tight contact with the upper surface of the cabinet 10 surrounding the platen 20, so that there is no fear that the light from a light source 41 leaks to the outside. |
