In a tunnel furnace having a conveyer formed by rollers 5 spaced apart by platforms 31, burners are mounted in transverse chambers 2 below the furnace sole, in the spaces 21 below the platforms 31 and/or within the rollers 5. Spaced outlets 8, 81 in the chambers 2, 21 and in the rollers 5 allow the combustion products, or cooling air fed to the rollers 5 to pass into the furnace. The sole 6 of the furnace may form the roof of a lower tunnel furnace.
