<p>PURPOSE:To effectively utilize control codes by expressing information used for detecting source data number to be included in the control codes provided at the second byte of the termination code of compressed data by irreducible minimum code length relating to the data compression system for compressing data such as character codes and picture data, etc., by arithmetic encoding and the data restoration system for restoring the source data from the arithmetically encoded compressed data. CONSTITUTION:An arithmetic encoding means 11 arithmetically encodes and compresses the inputted source data, a counting means 14 capable of counting the source data number (m) to be restored from one byte of the compressed data obtained by the arithmetic encoding is provided and the counting means 14 is cleared at the every byte output of the compressed data by the arithmetic encoding means 11. When the termination of the compressed data is detected, the code for indicating the completion of the compressed data and the value (m) of the source data number to be restored from the final compressed data counted at the counting means 14 are added by a termination code adding means 16.</p> |
