PURPOSE:To simplify a process for manufacturing a rare earth magnet, by agitating the powder of an R-TM (rare earth element-transition metal) alloy mechanically in a gas containing nitrogen or agitating the powder of the alloy while putting the powder of the alloy in a gas which contains nitrogen and is subjected to a convection, and further, by making nitrogen penetrate the powder of the alloy. CONSTITUTION:A method for manufacturing a rare earth magnet, wherein nitrogen is made to penetrate the powder of the alloy, whose fundamental composition comprises rare earth elements and transition metals, while agitating the power of the alloy mechanically in a gas containing nitrogen or while putting the powder of the alloy in a gas, which contains nitrogen and is subjected to a convection, and agitating the powder of the alloy by the gas. There, the rare earth elements are one kind or at least two kinds of elements which are selected from among Y, Th and all lanthanoid elements. Thereby, the process for manufacturing the rare earth magnet is simplified since nitrogen is adsorbed efficiently on the surfaces of the powder of the alloy, and the mass production of the magnet is improved, and the permanent magnet having a high performance can be manufactured at low cost. Therefore, the reductions of the prices and sizes of a motor, etc., and the improvements of their performances are made possible. |
