PURPOSE:To eliminate a state in which focus detection is disabled by broadening the width of an image projected on an array of elements. CONSTITUTION:An auto-focusing light device, which is attached to or incorporated into a camera 105 having an automatic focus detection device for detecting foci by receiving transmitted light from a photographing lens 104 at an array 106 of photoelectric conversion elements and which when the quantity of light is insufficient to photograph a subject projects a pattern 108 of projection toward the subject by automatic or manual means and detects the pattern 108 of projection by means of the automatic focus detection device of the camera 105, comprises a spetroscopic means for dispersing the pattern 108 of projection into a spectrum in the direction of arrangement of the array 106 of photoelectric conversion elements.
