METHOD FOR CONNECTING OPTICAL COMPONENT TO OPTICAL FIBER

PURPOSE:To provide a method for connecting an optical component to an optical fiber, whereby fusion is achieved at good controllability. CONSTITUTION:In a connecting method including forcing the end face of an optical component 10 made of quartz material into abutting contact with that of an optical fiber 5 and fusing the optical component 10 to the optical fiber 5 by application of a carbon dioxide laser beam 4 to the abutting portion, the clad 8 of the optical fiber 5 is projected from the junction face of the optical component 10 and along the direction in which the carbon dioxide laser beam 4 is applied.
