PURPOSE:To connect a plurality of quartz optical waveguides and a plurality of optical fibers by fusion with small losses and no dispersion and at good reproducibility. CONSTITUTION:A CO2 laser multiconductor fusion connecting device, which uses a CO2 laser beam 7 to connect by fusion a plurality of quartz optical wavegudes 10 and a plurality of optical fiber 14 both of which are formed on the same plane, includes a CO2 laser generator 15 for generating the CO2 laser beam 7, a condensor lens 5 for condensing the CO2 laser beam 7 from the CO2 laser generator 1, and a mask 6 through which a plurality of laser beam through holes are formed in such a manner that focused light from the condensor lens 5 is applied only to a certain range of each of the fused portions 12 of the quartz optical waveguides 10 and the optical fibers 14 while application of the light to other portions is prevented. |
