PURPOSE:To provide the fully optical light discriminating and reproducing device which performs retiming, discrimination, and reproduction in the form of light without converting the light into an electric signal in an optical communication device or a light signal processor. CONSTITUTION:This device is equipped with an optical Kerr switch constituted by incorporating an optical Kerr medium 8, which inputs an input light signal pulse train 1 and a light clock pulse train 3 synchronized with it and varies in refractive index depending upon the light intensity of the input signal pulses, in an interferometer and a means which separates the output light signal of the optical Kerr switch and the input light signal which varies the refractive index of the optical Kerr medium 8; and the optical Kerr medium 8 makes the input light signal pulses and light clock pulses different in propagation speed and the time position is so adjusted that both pulses are superposed on each other with time in the center of the optical Kerr medium 8, thereby setting the maximum value of phase variation of the light clock pulses with the input signal pulses almost to pi. |
