The invention relates to a cover for a mechanism for opening and closing a panel that can be moved relative to a non-moving surface, in particular for a motor vehicle sliding roof, which mechanism comprises a guide rail (3) for guiding hinge elements of the movable panel (4). The mechanism cover according to the invention is characterised in that it comprises a finish piece (6) running longitudinally along the guide rail (3) and pivoting about an axis (8) parallel to the longitudinal direction of the guide rail, and spring-loaded return means (5) for bringing the finish piece (6) from a lowered position in which the width of the finish piece is at a tangent to the surface of the movable panel (4) to a raised position in which the width of the finish piece is approximately perpendiucular to the surface of the movable panel (4), with one of its longitudinal sides (7) bearing against the surface of the movable panel in such a way that the movement of the movable panel relative to the non-moving surface causes the finish piece to pivot. The mechanism cover according to the invention enables the guide rail and the hinge elements to be hidden in the various positions of the movable panel.
