The crossbar (4) has an eyelet (11) for engaging with the load hook of a lift device when the container is to be raised. The two container shells (2,3) are attached to the spaced lower ends of the crossbar by the swivel axes (5.1,5.2) which are symmetrical with a centre line lying in the separating plane between the two shells when the container is closed. The opening mechanism for the container is formed by two articulated arms connected together at one end by an elbow joint whist their other ends are attached to the top of each one of the shells. When the container is raised and the two shells are swivelled away from each other the emptying opening is considerably enlarged. USE/ADVANTAGE - Easier emptying of refuse container for waste and recyclable materials.
