Producing mattes of highly enriched nickel and metallised sulphide(s) - includes successive use of flame melting and electric furnaces

The method for producing of highly enriched nickel and metallised sulphide mattes is characterised by the following steps: a) nickel sulphide concentrate and a reaction gas are fed together with flux into the reaction shaft of a flame melting furnace; b) a highly enriched nickel matte and slag are produced in the flame melting furnace; c) the highly enriched nickel matte is granulated and fed to a hydrometallurgical process; d) the slag produced in the flame melting furnace is fed - together with a reducing agent and a material containing sulphur (or some other material which either reduces the melting-point temperature or causes fluidisation) - to an electric furnace to produce a matte of metallised sulphide and waste slag; e) the metallised sulphide matte is subjected to a further hydro-metallurgical process. USE/ADVANTAGE - In the metallurgical industry. The process is simpler than the alternative currently in use.
