The packaging element is placed on the conveyor belt which is transporting the sweets in rows so that each one sweet is taken up in each socket without manual handling. The packaging element is then transported with the conveyor belt to a carton into which it is pushed or allowed to slip. A following packaging element slips into the carton until its leading edges contact the back of the previous element. The walls forming the sockets are pref. U-shaped in horizontal section and are made into a strip. The walls can be connected together by a batten arranged at the back of the base sides. The packaging is pref. made of paper or cardboard.
