The suction unit produces a suction airflow inside the suction chamber. The enclosure (15') defining the suction chamber (16) is arranged at the tool head (11) of the machine tool, e.g. milling machine enclosing the workpiece area. The machine is driven by an electric stepper motor (25) which can be numerically or computer controlled. The enclosure is open at the side facing the workpiece (13) and is closed on the side facing away from the workpiece. The enclosure (15') of the suction chamber (16) includes a flexible curtain (21), which is fixed at a connection cover (17) for the suction line, closing off the suction chamber. ADVANTAGE - Ensures practically complete removal of turnings and dust as result of machining with relatively small suction power.
