PARTICULATE MATERIAL FLOWS THROUGH SLOT IN WALL OF CONTAINER: FLOW RATE

The flow rate of a particulate material (3) is measured using a vessel (1) with an aperture (4), e.g a vertical slit allowing an outflow (3a) of material. The flow rate is determined by reference to the height of the outflow (3a) providing this height does not reach the full height of the slit. The height is determined by monitoring the weight of material in the vessel with a load cell (8). The aperture may comprise a V-shaped slot or a slot inclined to the vertical. A number of slots may be provided with an inner conical deflector to ensure even distribution.
