<p>The railway trucks of the present invention are designed for transporting highway vehicles on a railway. Each truck comprises a flexible frame which includes first and second parallel frame members (11, 12) and first and second cross members (17, 24) each of which is loosely connected at one end to one of the frame members (11, 12) and rigidly connected at the other end to the other of the frame members (11, 12). Hydraulic motors (34) are pivotally connected to the second cross member (24) by pivot arms (37) and pivotally secured to a pair of railway truck axles (14) supporting the frame members (11, 12), such that flexion of the flexible frame will not affect the distance between the motors (34) and the axles (14). The drive motors (34) and the axles (14) are interconnected by chain and sprocket assemblies (41, 42, 43). An engine (31) and hydraulic pumps (32) are mounted on the first cross member (17) and connected to the drive motors (34) by flexible conduits (33) for accommodating relative movements between the drive motors (34) and the engine (31) and hydraulic pumps (32).</p> |
