A valve upper body, particularly for use in sanitary armature installations, has a closure piece which slides axially in the head and is seated against this via an O-ring. An elastic seal on the front face is designed to close against the valve seat. The head has a spindle threaded through to a chamber in the closure piece. The base of the closure piece (40) chamber (45) has a relief opening (46), which opens at a point where the seal (42) is elastic.
