<p>An apparatus for visual field analysis of the eye (6) comprising: a display means (1) on which visual stimuli may be displayed; and an optical imaging system (2) for forming an image of said stimuli to be viewed by the eye, said system being positioned in use between said display means (1) and the eye (6), and being arranged such that said image is in focus at some distance behind the actual display means, whereby the image may be viewed with a relaxed eye with all parts of said image substantially in focus. The apparatus allows a relatively small display (1) to be located close to the eye (6), thus filling the field of view, but enables the image of the display to be viewed without the strain associated with closer focal distances. The ability to use a small display means that ordinary cathode ray displays may be used, with their corresponding versatility and ease of display control. Preferably an optical sensor is located at or near the position of the eye (6) to measure the background and stimulus illumination, and to provide feedback to control the display. The invention also extends to a method of visual field testing.</p> |
